How the GasCheck calculator works

GasCheck uses the same maths gas engineers use. We take the appliance's megajoule rating (MJ/h), multiply by how long you use it each day, then divide by 49 MJ per kg of LPG. That gives a realistic daily kg burn rate — and an honest estimate of how many days are left in your bottle.

Quick reference

9kg + stove (1 hr/day)~50 days
9kg + gas geyser (2 showers/day)~7–10 days
19kg + braai (once a week)most of a year
48kg + shop stove (6 hrs/day)~40 days

Why no hardware?

Smart gas monitors in South Africa cost over R1,000. GasCheck gives you the same "days remaining" insight for free by modelling consumption mathematically. Use the fill slider whenever you swap or weigh your bottle to keep predictions sharp.

Frequently asked questions

Is GasCheck really free?

Yes — no signup, no ads-by-default, no hidden fees. We may show simple distributor listings when you're running low.

Will it work without internet?

After your first visit the calculator runs entirely in your browser. Your settings are stored locally on your device.

How accurate is the estimate?

GasCheck uses standard MJ/h ratings and LPG energy density. Real burn rate varies with flame setting, weather and appliance condition — treat it as a strong guide, not gospel.
